Hello, I hope your day is going well
I am a Design Leader and Individual Contributor with 20+ years in product design, managing design teams and contributing to content strategy, information architecture, UX and UI. I focus on distilling complex requirements into clear digital solutions. I also cook a pretty delicious lasagna.
My Design Principles
01
Solve a problem for the customer.
Before design starts, we have clearly identified the important problem to solve. We listen to our users and become UX research evangelists. When we solve problems for our users, we solve problems for our business.
02
Make services easy to find.
Product architecture and navigation should let users know where they are and where they can go next. High-priority tasks are prominent, and low-priority tasks are diminished or removed. We use a common language that our users will understand.
03
Create a clear hierarchy.
If everything is important, nothing is important. A screen might allow a user to do many things, but the most significant thing should be clear to the user. We use size, position, colour and layout to let the user know what is important.
04
Reduce to the essential.
Reduce cognitive load for the user by eliminating clutter. If the information doesn’t support the user’s ability to solve their problem, we remove it. Simple solutions are the most difficult to create.
05
Build on what already exists.
We leverage design patterns that users are already familiar with. We move from focusing on individual parts and features to looking at the entire ecosystem.
06
Be usable by everyone.
What looks good to us could be too small or not provide enough contrast for many users. By serving the segments of our audience that require special consideration, we are serving all.
